D-Day... Plus 9!

It has been 9 days since my due date and we are making no progress whatsoever! I have been into the doctors office 3 times in the last 9 days and each time have only been 1cm dilated and hardly any effacement. Either baby is just not ready to come out yet or is extremely comfortable in there! I am currently scheduled to go into the hospital Tues night for cervical ripening and then the induction will start Wednesday morning. Dr Messenger should be plenty surprised to see us! We said our goodbyes before she left for her trip the week of my due date, thinking they baby would have been born long ago! For now, we've just been trying to enjoy as much alone time with Tyler as possible before our new addition comes.

Last weekend, we took a trip to Honey Creek Acres Apple Orchard. It's in Swisher, IA about 15 miles south of Cedar Rapids. What a great little place! They have 30 aces of apple trees of every variety you can imagine. You can pick as many apples as you want and they great part about it, is that they encourage you to taste test as much as you want. Tyler was eating apples right off the tree and loving every minute of it!

We ended up picking 8lbs of apples and found our favorites were Jonathan, Cortland, Sharon and Honeycrisp. I made a huge batch of applesauce and an apple crisp and we've been snacking on the rest! They also had a little pumpkin patch setup so Tyler picked out his first pumpkin of the season.

This past weekend was another great experience! Grandpa Randy and Grandma Lou came down Saturday morning and we met in the Amana Colonies for Oktoberfest. We saw a GREAT parade with a ton of firetrucks, tractors and horses. Tyler was in heaven! Grandpa and Rob went to the Iowa/Penn St game (Homecoming) and got to see a pretty good game with the Hawks winning 17-3. As Tyler would say, GOOOOOO HAWKEYES!!!

D-Day!

My due date has arrived! Unfortunately, baby is not quite ready to do the same! My appt this morning showed I am only about 1cm dialated and hardly effaced. Thankfully I am measuring only 38cm so I don't think baby is very big as of yet. I have another appt scheduled for next Weds to check for more progress. Dr Messenger is on vacation with her family so I have been seeing Dr Bemus but it's possible baby wants to wait for Dr Messenger to return next week!

Tyler on the other hand is still the best little guy around. His second week of preschool was a little rough since I think he realized right away that Mommy wasn't sticking around. Many of the parents left at the same time and the entire classroom seemed to be in tears. Mrs Sheets said the tears didn't last long at all and Tyler was his happy ole self when I came back to pick him up. Lately, he has been singing all kinds of different songs. He loves Farmer in the Dell, Twinkle Twinkle, ABC's, and a few others that I hear peep out of him from time to time. I think he's going to be a wonderful big brother and can't wait for him to meet baby!

1st Day of Preschool

We took a very big step today! Tyler had his first day of preschool at St Pauls United Methodist and his first couple of hours away from Mom, Dad or other family members. After the teachers encouragingly pushed Mommy out the door, I cried in the parking lot for about 5 minutes before driving away. Tyler, on the other hand, was a champ! He had a great time at preschool. They played outside (and there is construction going on right across the street so he loved that), read a book (Moose Goes to School) and played with crayons and play-doh. When I picked him up he told me "I love preschool." My heart melted instantaneously. The director of the program commented on what a smart little boy he was and his teachers said his vocabulary is amazing! We are already looking forward to next week!

I had my 38 week checkup today and baby seems to be extremely comfy in there. I am about 1cm dilated and 50% effaced but that was the same as 2 weeks ago. I don't mind little to no progress at this point since the weather is so wonderful outside and we are getting Tyler acclimated to preschool. We'll see what baby has in store for us next week!

We're really doing it!

Rob and I have talked about starting a blog FOREVER so now we are finally doing it! We have 2 weeks and 2 days to go before Baby #2's due date. The sex is still a mystery and yes, the envelope is still sealed and in the kitchen cabinet! We've found ourselves taking a whole different approach to this baby's arrival as I think we were "ready" for Tyler when I was about 6 months along. This pregnancy has been very much like the first (minus the swelling, thankfully) but I'm hesitant to conclude it's another boy. We'll just have to wait and see!
